This compact yet capable 4×4 arrives at a time when adventure travel and outdoor exploration have surged in popularity, offering genuine go-anywhere credentials without the premium price tag typically associated with such vehicles.

The Jimny enters the Indian market with a starting price of ₹12.74 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it significantly below established off-roaders while offering comparable capability in challenging terrain.

“What makes the Jimny special is that it’s not pretending,” explains Rahul Sharma, an off-road instructor with over 15 years of experience testing vehicles across India’s diverse terrains.

“Unlike many affordable SUVs that look rugged but struggle beyond light trails, the Jimny brings genuine mechanical capability – proper four-wheel drive with low range, excellent approach and departure angles, and the ground clearance to tackle serious obstacles.”

The vehicle’s off-road credentials are impressive on paper and in practice. The Jimny features a ladder-frame chassis, 3-link rigid axle suspension with coil springs, and Suzuki’s proven AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a proper transfer case offering both 2H, 4H and 4L modes.

Ground clearance stands at a generous 210mm, while approach, breakover and departure angles of 36, 24, and 50 degrees respectively outperform many pricier competitors.

Fuel efficiency ranges between 13-16 km/l depending on terrain and driving conditions – reasonable figures considering the vehicle’s capabilities.

Vineeth Patel, a software engineer from Bengaluru who purchased a Jimny after considering several alternatives, shares his perspective: “I compared everything from the Mahindra Thar to the Force Gurkha, but the Jimny offered the best balance of daily usability and weekend adventure capability within my budget.

It’s comfortable enough for my daily commute but can handle the trails around Coorg and Chikmagalur that I explore monthly.”

Materials throughout the cabin prioritize durability over luxury, with easy-clean surfaces and water-resistant upholstery that can handle the inevitable mud and dust that accompany proper off-road use.

The instrument cluster provides essential off-road information including altimeter, barometer, and compass alongside standard vehicle data.

Safety equipment includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, hill hold and hill descent control – the latter proving particularly valuable for novice off-roaders navigating steep terrain.
